Lindy by the Lake: Independence

LbtL, 78°, partly cloudy with a chance of swing!

Summer is in full swing! The weather outside was perfect for another Lindy by the Lake. Traditionally, July is a rough month for local Lindy hop events. There’s the San Diego Lindy Exchange happening on the same weekend. And many Lindy hop dancers make the annual trek to Herräng Dance Camp in Sweden. But for those dancers who stayed local, Lindy by the Lake was a great way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon.

DJ David Shen took change of the four-hour music set, which featured a smattering of old jazz favorites as well as infusion of covers from new artists. It was well appreciated by Lindy hoppers in attendance, and attracted the occasional jogger and Lake Merritt enthusiasts to pause take in the jazz.

LbTL also featured a special mini acoustic performance. Two songs were featured: “A Wink & A Smile” and “Someone You Like.”

Save the date for next month, August 17. It’s sure to be a Saturday scorcher! Until then, Swing the hella out…Oakland. Peace!

DJ: David Shen

Special acoustic performance: Jolene (vocals/washboard), Rachel (guitar) & Auey (ukulele)

Lindy Pride and Oakland Pride!
Keep calm and swing the hell out!
